10 Days of Prayer 2024 Prayer Guide

Days 1-5 – God of Glory

Praying for individual believers, churches and Christian organisations across the Reading area

Day 1 (3 Oct) Wake up

Romans 13:11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

  • For the church in Reading to wake up, to understand the present time

  • Ask God what ‘waking up’ might look like and use that to guide your prayers

  • Pray for God’s breath of life to blow through the believers, churches and Christian organisations in your locality, perhaps prayer walking

Day 2 (4 Oct) Be Surrendered

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 13:12 Let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

  • Make the church in Reading a pure bride for you, Jesus

  • Where have we as God’s people compromised? Repent for these things

  • Envision the churches in your area putting on the armour of light

Day 3 (5 Oct) Think differently

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  • Lord, show us where we have conformed to this world, change our mindsets to conform with your Kingdom

  • Pray for individual believers, Christian organisations, churches and businesses in your area to operate on Kingdom principles

Day 4 (6 Oct) Be a body part

Romans 12:4-5 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

  • We pray for shared vision and purpose in your body in Reading, Lord

  • Pray for your church or organisation for this to become a tangible reality, each of us playing our part

  • Pray for all of us to know we are part of the body of Christ in Reading and beyond

Day 5 (7 Oct) Be passionate

Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.

  • May we all, whatever our age, be passionate for you and overflowing with your Spirit

  • Pray for current and emerging leaders to never lose their passion for Jesus

  • Pray for children, youth and young adult ministries in the town to nurture passionate disciples

Days 6-10 – God of Grace

Praying that many will come to know Jesus through the lives and love of believers

 â€‹

Day 6 (8 Oct) Love Reading

Romans 13:9 Love your neighbour

  • Lord, give us your heart of compassion for those around us

  • Pray for your neighbours, especially those who don’t know Jesus - perhaps prayer walking your street

  • Pray for ministries reaching out to the isolated and lonely

Day 7 (9 Oct) Bless Reading

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse

  • Bless your locality, or aspects of Reading that the Lord leads you to

  • Pray for Reading’s many Christian ministries serving the town

  • Bless those you are aware of that actively oppose Christians

Day 8 (10 Oct) Live humbly and generously

Romans 12:10,13 Honour one another above yourselves… Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practise hospitality.

  •  May people be drawn to our church community because of us – may our hospitality extend beyond the four walls of our churches

  • Pray that our love and commitment to each other will be real and evident outside the church

  • Pray for us all to welcome the newcomer and love them

Day 9 (11 Oct) Engage with the authorities

Romans 13:1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

  • Make us active and respected in our communities, Lord, and steadfast in your truth and grace

  • Pray for your MP, the council, the police and other civic organisations

  • Give thanks for the good relationships Christian ministries in Reading have with the council etc.

Day 10 (12 Oct) Share the gospel
